Gorilla trekking is the guided hike through rainforests to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, usually in Rwanda, Uganda, or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The best locations are Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, both home to endangered mountain gorillas.
Yes. A gorilla trekking permit is required for every visitor. Our safaris handle the permits in advance for a seamless experience.
The dry seasons, from June to September and December to February, are ideal for trekking. Trails are easier to navigate and wildlife is more active.
Children aged 15 and above can join gorilla trekking. Younger children may not be allowed for safety and conservation reasons.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes, long pants, lightweight long-sleeve shirts, a raincoat, hat, and gloves. Earth tones are preferred to blend with the forest.
Treks vary from 2 to 6 hours depending on gorilla location, terrain, and group pace. The experience is fully guided and can be physically challenging.
Yes. Photography is allowed, but flash photography is prohibited to protect the gorillas. High-quality cameras are recommended for capturing wildlife.
You may see golden monkeys, forest elephants, birds, and diverse plant life along the trails, making each trek a rich ecological experience.
Our safaris are fully managed, including permits, accommodations, meals, local transfers, and expert guides, so you can focus entirely on the adventure
