TSAVO SAFARIS
Tsavo East and West together form Kenya’s largest protected wilderness: red-dust elephants, lava flows, clear springs and space to yourself. Ideal with Amboseli or the coast.
Big, wild and uncrowded, Tsavo suits travellers who like space and a sense of real wilderness.
Tsavo's elephants are famous for their colour, from dust-bathing in the red soil.
Tsavo West's lava flows, hills and Mzima Springs, where clear water rises from underground.
Vast distances and far fewer vehicles than Kenya's busiest parks.
Two very different parks, with Amboseli and the coast close by. Read our Tsavo destination guide.
Flat, open plains and the Galana River, within easy reach of the coast.
Hillier and greener, with Mzima Springs and views over volcanic country.
Elephants beneath Kilimanjaro, a short drive from Tsavo West.
Continue to Diani or Watamu for a beach finish after the bush.
Three routes that include Tsavo, each adjustable to your dates.
Kilimanjaro views, then Tsavo West's volcanic wilderness.
Two parks and a beach finish, linked by road and air.
The Mara, Rift Valley lakes and Amboseli, ending in Tsavo West.

Fantastic trip across Kenya, Tanzania & Zanzibar If you’re looking to do a full safari circuit in East Africa, I can’t recommend Camptrek Safaris enough. We covered a huge amount of ground—Amboseli, the Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater—before flying out to Zanzibar to wind down. Everything behind the scenes was handled by Rose, who was brilliant to work with. She was always quick to respond to questions, kept us updated, and ensured every handoff between regions was seamless. On the road, our guides Eric, Ben, and Jackson were second to none. They were reliable, knew the roads and parks inside out, and made sure we got the absolute most out of every single game drive. Huge thanks to Rose and the guys for making this such a memorable experience!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Safari for the heart I knew our safari would be magical, however, I wasn’t prepared for the healing, connection, and restoration it brought to my heart and spirit. We were in a group of 11 traveling through Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. Everything was seamless - from CampTrek’s help prior to leaving with required paperwork, the countless connections, each hotel was a magnificent experience (AMARI MARA WOW WOW WOW!!), the food and coffee are incredible (you will not go hungry!!), the hot air balloon ride is worth every penny, the animals and scenery leave you in awe, and the best part - meeting such bright, generous, loving people. I am filled with gratitude and still trying to process and hold tight to how my life has changed. A special thanks to John, Ben, Simon, Augustin, and Margaret for making our trip so beautiful - my heart is overflowing. Africa truly is a feeling!!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Unforgettable wildlife safari with the best guide Our family of four, including two teenagers, spent 14 unforgettable days on safari with Camp Trek, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. From the very beginning, everything was organized perfectly. Every transfer, the great accommodations, and activity worked exactly as planned, and the entire trip ran without a single issue. We also appreciated travelling in a modern, comfortable, and well-maintained safari car. However, what truly makes or breaks a safari is the guide. We were incredibly fortunate to have Pili Pili as our guide. He is simply outstanding - champions league! For him, guiding is not just a job—it is clearly his passion. His knowledge of wildlife is exceptional, and he shared fascinating insights about the animals, the landscapes, the culture, and the people of Kenya. We learned so much every single day. On top of that, Pili Pili is an extremely safe and considerate driver. He treats both wildlife and people with great respect, and always made us feel comfortable and secure. We cannot imagine a better guide and would recommend Camp Trek anytime. If you have the chance to request Pili Pili, do it!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Camptrek Safaris excelled in providing us with a trip of a lifetime to many of the National Parks of Kenya and Tanzania. From the moment we arrived the service was professional and exacting. The lodges were varied but all offered a very high level of comfort, service and location. The vehicles were built for the job and enabled us to get the best viewings without having to share with others. Our Kenyan and Tanzanian guides were knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated. We have no hesitation in recommending Camptrek Safaris and will definitely travel with them in the future.Posted on Google![]()

We’re so happy that we found Camptrek safaris through online research as they were fantastic from the moment that we first contacted them while planning our trip. Lucy, in the office, was extremely quick with communication and very patient/flexible when we changed our plans a few times on the lead up to our safari (we had a tailored itinerary that isn’t one of the standard trips)! Our guide and driver, Ndirangu (David) was wonderful - so knowledgeable and kind, always ensuring to help us get the most out of the safari and very adaptable to some schedule changes we made through the week I can’t recommend Camptrek safaris highly enough, if we manage to return to Kenya or Tanzania we wouldn’t hesitate to book though them again.Posted on Google![]()

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank Camptrek Safari for the amazing experience we had with them! We had a 5-day Safari trip, including Masai Mara, Lakes Nakuru and Naivasha and Hell’s gate. From the very first message to our drop-off, everything went smoothly and effortlessly. We would highly recommend planning everything with Augustine. He patiently answered our many questions before the trip and was always happy to adjust everything to our wishes. He even helped us buy train tickets, as this required a local phone number. We are truly happy that we chose this company for our first safari experience. And we couldn’t be happier with our guide, Eric! He is a very experienced driver and guide, and at the same time has an incredibly friendly and kind personality. Since we had a private tour just for the two of us, we could fully adapt it to our needs, and Eric was always open and happy to fit everything we wanted into the trip. Most of the time, we simply followed his advice- and we were never disappointed. Thanks to Eric, we managed to see the Big Five within the first two days of our trip! He shared so many fascinating facts about the animals, nature, and the areas we visited, as well as stories about Kenya and Africa in general. And of course, he patiently answered all of our many questions. Eric has deep knowledge of local traditions and the economy of the region, and we would definitely recommend him as a safari guide. We are already looking forward to future trips to Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda😉 As for the accommodations, we were very lucky with Zebra River Lodge. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, the food was tasty, and we felt very welcome there. The overall atmosphere was warm and pleasant—we liked it the most. It is an amazing place by the river, with tents separated by tall grass and a river view from the terrace, which felt unique, special, and very personal. The other two lodges, Sopa Lodge and Osotua Luxury Resort Lodge, were fine for just one night. However, as they are much larger and busier, the experience felt less personal. The staff seemed more tired and less attentive, and the rooms could benefit from some renovation. We also didn’t enjoy the food there. It wasn’t very tasty, and there were very few options for vegetarians. The meals offered little to no protein, except for beans, which were served up to three times a day, as there were no real alternatives. In addition, all meals were served as a buffet, which became a bit tiring by the third day. At Sopa Lodge, we would have appreciated having an à la carte restaurant option at least for lunch, where food is prepared fresh to order.Posted on Google![]()

We had an excellent experience with Camptrek Safaris from start to finish. The entire trip was well organized and exceeded our expectations. Rose, who helped plan the safari, was extremely communicative and detail oriented. She provided clear, timely information throughout the planning process and made sure all our questions were answered, which made everything feel smooth and stress-free. Our driver and guide, Erick, was truly outstanding. He was highly knowledgeable, patient, and an excellent driver across all terrains. Thanks to his expertise, we were able to see all of the Big Five, witness a real hunt, and capture incredible photos. Overall, Camptrek Safaris delivered a professional, memorable, and high quality safari experience. I would highly recommend them and would absolutely book with them again.Posted on Google![]()

Our first safari and it exceeded all expectations! Though you cannot control nature, you can control which company will be your safari guide and we are very happy we chose CampTrek. Ben was a phenomenal guide and very personable. He taught us a lot about the animals and always had a keen instinct for putting us in the best position to get great photos and videos. He was not only a great guide but a great friend throughout this journey. I encourage anyone looking to get the most out of their safari to play an active role in your journey, it’s so much fun to stand up in the landcruiser and scour the vast landscape for even the most elusive creatures. My wife and I were fortunate enough to find a leopard, many lions, a cheetah, and some of the most beautiful birds I’ve ever seen. The trip was honestly one of the greatest I’ve ever had, and I travel a lot, and I would not hesitate to do this again.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend. My wife and I had an unforgettable experience by booking our safari with Camptrek Safaris. The booking process went smooth and with Camptrek Safaris knowledgeable and experienced staff that helped us create the perfect safari experience for the two of us thoughtout Kenya. Our entire experience from booking, to being picked up at the airport and dropped off at the airport was seamless. Camptrek Safaris was very responsive and extremely knowledgeable. Our guide during our Safari, Ben, was clearly one of the best in the business. He was passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and clearly knew how to find the best spots in the parks to see the animals as close as possible. We highly recommend requesting Ben as your guide during your booking process.Posted on Google![]()

I had a great experience booking a 12 day safari in Kenya and Tanzania with Camptrek Safaris. We went to Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park, and Tarangire National Park. From the start, Margaret was extremely helpful and accommodating in assisting planning and booking the safari beforehand. I had many questions and added or changed a few things in the itinerary, and she answered promptly in detail and easily changed the itinerary when asked. She was friendly the whole time and never made me feel like I was bothering her with questions. She also helped me book a flight for the end of the safari because the airline's website wasn't working for me. I highly recommend working with Margaret to plan your trip! Once I arrived in Nairobi, Margaret was there waiting for me at the airport with a clear sign when I exited customs, which took an immensely long time, yet she was still patiently waiting there! The flight was delayed and customs took probably over an hour, so I was thankful that Margaret was willing to wait so long and late at night for me. The taxi van that took me to the first hotel was very nice, too. I had 2 guides and 2 vehicles - one for Kenya and one for Tanzania. Julius Pilipili was my first guide and I would give him 5 stars! He was very friendly, upbeat, and excellent overall. He had an interest in photography, so he was able to understand angles and light very well and set me up with great positions for shots without me needing to even ask. I don't know if I even asked once for him to move where we stopped the vehicle… He just automatically knew where to stop. He really has a talent for guiding. We saw a ton of animals (big 5 included)! I definitely don't think you'll be disappointed having him guide you. Both guides were knowledgeable about the wildlife giving interesting fun facts and always had answers if I asked. If you are serious about photography, I would highly recommend trying to get Julius to guide the whole trip because that's what I would want next time! I was really impressed with him and liked his energy. The hotels were all very nice and enjoyable. Beautiful rooms with many having good views. I even got upgraded because of a misunderstanding, and I really appreciated that Camptrek Safaris listened to my concern and responded in a way that let me know that they cared about my experience and wanted to make it up to me. It would make me feel comfortable to book again with them in the future knowing that if any other issues were to arise, they would be willing to listen and help. Overall, the whole experience with them was great! I was a little nervous beforehand booking with Camptrek Safaris since they don't have quite as many reviews as some of the other companies I came across, but I was looking to support a smaller business employing locals and they also offered some of the best pricing I inquired about, while also being more responsive than some others. I can assure you after my experience though, they are legit and I think anyone would really enjoy their trip with them!Posted on Google![]()

Awesome experience! Planning was quick and efficient thanks to Lucy. I asked her way too many questions and she was always kind. Communication was great and easy via email or whatsapp before and during the trip. Our guide/driver Shabani was incredible every step of the way. He was punctual, patient and knowledgeable. The car was very comfortable and clean. Everything turned out better than we expected!Posted on Google![]()

Amazing 2-Day Solo Safari – Highly Recommend! I did a 2-day private solo safari from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha, and it was incredible. The price was very fair, and the team was extremely responsive, even with my last-minute booking. I was in Nairobi for a conference with only a few days free, and this tour was perfectly adapted to a short stay and tight timing. Everything felt personalized, well-organized, and stress-free. My driver-guide was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable, sharing great insights and always adapting to what I wanted. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and very well taken care of. The night at Egret Savannah Camp was peaceful and comfortable. Wildlife, landscapes, overall experience — everything was perfect. If you’re looking for a flexible, reliable, well-priced safari, especially for a short or last-minute trip, I 100% recommend this one!
Two nights in each park is ideal if you want to see both Tsavo East and Tsavo West. One or two nights works well as part of a wider route.
Tsavo East is within a few hours’ drive of the coast, which makes it an easy pairing with a beach stay at Diani or Watamu.
Yes, especially combined with Amboseli. If big cats are your top priority, we would also suggest adding the Masai Mara.
The dry seasons, roughly June to October and January to February, when wildlife gathers at water sources.
Yes. The Madaraka Express between Nairobi and Mombasa stops at Voi, close to Tsavo East, which some travellers enjoy as part of the journey.
