Your Itinerary
You will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta Airport to start your journey to Amboseli National Park. Upon arrival at the camp, you will have lunch and then embark on an afternoon game drive to explore the acacia woodland, freshwater swamps, scrub brush, and open plains in search of wildlife. You will return to the camp at sunset.
Amboseli National Park covers an area of 392 square kilometers and is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain on earth and in Africa (5895m). Other animals you may spot here include cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, gazelles, hippos, and more.
Please note: You can choose to arrive a day earlier and partake in the various activities that Nairobi has to offer, including the Giraffe Center, David Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage, Nairobi National Park, and a city tour.
You have 2 options for your day at Amboseli Park. You can leave the camp after breakfast, carrying your packed lunch to enjoy in the wild. Spend the entire day exploring Amboseli's marshlands and swamps, then return to the lodge late in the afternoon after a long day of exploration,
The second option begins with an early morning game drive to see the animals when they are most active. Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch. Spend the hottest part of the day relaxing in camp, reading, writing in your journal, or observing the resident birds. In the late afternoon, at around 4 pm, head out for another drive through the park.
After breakfast, you will depart Amboseli National Park and head towards Nairobi. During the journey, you will stop at the famous Tamarind Brasserie or the Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi for a leisurely lunch. Once you finish your meal, you will continue driving west and make another stopover at the stunning Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Here, you can stretch your legs and take photos of the breathtaking scenery, including Mount Longonot and Mount Suswa.
You will proceed to your hotel, which is located on the shores of Lake Naivasha, arriving late in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you can choose to relax by the poolside in preparation for a busy day tomorrow full of outdoor activities. Otherwise, you can walk around the camp, which has animals like giraffes, hippos, and many bird species.
After finishing breakfast, pack your things and drive towards Hell's Gate National Park, which is located nearby. You have the option to either cycle, walk, or drive through the park. It is one of the few national parks for cycling, walking, and hiking. If you don't have a bicycle, you can rent one at the gate upon arrival. Afterward, you will proceed to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride and a walking excursion at the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. Here, the animals are less wary of people, and you can take selfies with them. This sanctuary is situated adjacent to the lake.
Once you have finished exploring the park and the island, you will drive to a nearby hotel for lunch. Then, you will proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park with an optional visit to Lake Elementaita known for large flocks of flamingos, arriving at the lodge in the late afternoon.
Note: We advise you to book the peak season from July to September well in advance to get the best prices and secure the best lodges.
After having breakfast, you will begin your first early-morning game drive. Despite the early start, morning game drives are always worth it, as you can spot animals when they are most active. Lake Nakuru is home to flamingos, black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and the endangered Rothschild's giraffes. The southern end of the lake is the best place to see wildlife. The forested area below Rhinos Cliff is a favorite lion-spotting point where lionesses love to sleep in the trees.
After the game drive, you will exit the park and return to the lodge for lunch. Thereafter, drive through the Rift Valley floor to the Masai Mara National Reserve. On arrival, you will be picked up by the Maasai warriors and escorted to a nearby Maasai village for a cultural experience. You can learn more about the community that has co-existed with the Mara wildlife for centuries.
Note: Your accommodations and vehicle can be upgraded at an extra cost.
You will spend a full day exploring the rich tree-studded grassland and rolling hills of the famous savannah on a game-viewing tour. The Mara is well-known for its vast herds of plains game animals, such as leopards, cheetahs, lions, and other herbivores. It is also home to virtually every other type of wildlife found in Kenya.
You will have a picnic lunch under a flat-top acacia tree in the savannah while watching the animals grazing. After that, you will continue with the game-viewing en route to your camp, arriving late in the afternoon after thoroughly exploring this massive grassland savannah that measures 1,500 sq km.
You can also book a balloon ride early in the morning, which is an optional activity. After landing, the crew will assist you out of the basket and escort you to a lovely setting for a bush breakfast, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and worth the price. Later, you can join your driver guide at a location and proceed with your full-day game drive.
After a leisurely breakfast, you will check out of your lodge, pack up, and drive back to Nairobi. On the way, you can visit a Maasai village for a cultural experience, where you'll learn more about the community that has co-existed with the Mara wildlife for centuries.
You'll have lunch at one of the hotels in Narok town. Afterwards, the journey will continue to Nairobi, arriving in the mid-afternoon. You'll be dropped off at your respective hotel or the airport, marking the end of your safari.
Depending on your homebound flight departure time, you will organize with your driver guide the departure time from Masai Mara.
Note: You can request a coastal beach stay extension in Mombasa or Diani on this safari.
