Jambo, welcome to Kenya! On arrival, you will be met by a Camptrek representative and driven to your hotel situated on the outskirts or at the heart of the city. If you arrive early enough today, perhaps head out and explore the National Museum of Kenya, the Karen Blixen, the David Sheldrick, and the highly recommended Carnivore restaurant for your lunch and the famous Giraffe Centre then head back to your hotel.

DAY 1: KISII

Today after breakfast, travel west through the famous great rift valley on your way to Kisii, you will drive through the tea-growing highlands in the scenic fantastic highlands of Kenya, passing through the ancient homeland of the famous Maasai tribesmen (Narok). Here you will have a chance to stop at ATMs, stretch and have a chance to shop for some snacks at a local shopping mall. Keep a look out for these tribesmen dressed in distinctive scarlet robes as they tend their cows and goats. Have a local homestead lunch in the town of Kaplong and interact with the locals after lunch. The food for your lunch is grown and sourced locally.

DAY 2: LAKE VICTORIA:

Today you will be leaving Kenya and entering Tanzania and to the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest tropical lake in the world. Its shores are shared by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Your LODGE is on the shores of the lake tonight at one of the least visited areas, on the outskirts of a small town called Musoma. The guided bike excursion is a great activity to stretch the legs and learn about the town. Visit a local market and meet some locals. It is also another chance to visit an ATM or a bank.

DAY 3: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.

After breakfast, drive further south entering Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a game drive en route to your camp which is in the middle of the National Park arriving in good time for lunch. Your camp tonight is at the heart of the action within the park itself, so listen out for the sounds of the nocturnal animals as you drift off to sleep. The camp has showers and proper washrooms. NB: Our {lodge} camp tonight does not have a fence to separate the camp from the animals. This is a real experience as animals such as hyenas, and zebras often come close to the camp after sundown. A safety briefing will be given on arrival at the camp.

DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Early morning today after a light breakfast head out while the animals are at their most active and explore the plains in your jeeps, then head back to your camp for LUNCH at 12am spend the middle of the day relaxing just like the animals do, read your book or write your journal, head out again as the day begins to cool. Return back to your lodge as the day starts to cool in good time for dinner.

DAY 5: NGORONGORO CRATER:

Soak up final views of the animals and the gorgeous endless plains of Serengeti as you exit with a leisurely game drive en route to Ngorongoro. Today lunch is at your lodge and your destination today is at the rim of the crater for about 3 hrs. Away. Your LODGE overlooks the crater and the rolling grassland hundreds of meters below. This is one of the few lodges with the best views in the world. It can get very cold on the crater rim, particularly during the winter months (June to August) when temperatures drop below zero so be sure to bring warm clothes.

DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER/ MTO WA MBU:

Today after an early breakfast, get into your jeeps and ascend this gigantic, perfectly intact crater. Spend at least (4hrs) exploring this incredible, perfectly intact volcanic crater floor offers excellent viewing of animals all year round. Look out for the black rhinos, lions, elephants, hippos, and many more. Ngorongoro is home to about 30.000 animals living here in this 302km” crater. After lunch drive east to a small town of Mto wa Mbu, and join the local community for a guided afternoon walk around the town, farming areas, and local homes before enjoying a traditional meal at a local homestead.

DAY 7: NAIROBI

After early morning breakfast, set off heading for Nairobi through the Namanga border. (Approximately 7-8 hours). On arrival, you will be dropped off at the finishing point hotel. There is no accommodation provided for tonight, but this can be arranged when you book this trip, you can also choose to finish this trip in Arusha this morning and fly out of Kilimanjaro Airport (KIA). A transfer to the airport can be arranged when you book this trip.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:

CLIMBING MT. KILIMANJARO. If you would like to challenge yourself by climbing mt. Kilimanjaro, it is more convenient to finish this trip in Arusha on the final day rather than transferring back to Nairobi. You can be dropped off at the Impala Hotel in the center of the town and join the Kilimanjaro climbing group.
NOTES: We can also arrange a flight from Arusha airport to Zanzibar if you wish to extend your trip to the beaches of Zanzibar when booking this trip.

MINIMUM SAFARI REQUIREMENTS

What you need to bring will vary according to the trip style you have chosen, the countries you are visiting and when you are travelling. Generally speaking, we recommend you pack as lightly as possible and make sure that you are able to carry and lift your own luggage, and walk with it for short distances.

Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips.

Below are some ideas and helpful tips on what you specifically need for this trip.

ESSENTIALS:
- Closed in shoes. As most of our trips include some bush walking we highly recommend that you take a pair of comfortable, closed-in walking shoes. Closed-in shoes will help to protect your feet from cuts and scratches when walking through bush/grass-lands, and will also act as a barrier protection in rare cases against bites or stings from dangerous animals in this environment.
- Lightweight clothing. You will need to bring a mixture of lightweight clothing, some warm items for the evenings, and long shirts and pants for protection against mosquitoes in the malaria areas. Clothes should be easy to wash and dry. Some people like to take jeans for evenings out but they can be tough to dry and should not be used for trekking. Avoid nylon and other synthetics, which can be very uncomfortable in hot weather. Ex-military or military style clothing and equipment is NOT recommended.
- Sun protection - hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
RECOMMENDED:
- A good quality, high-beam headlamp or torch for around the lodges and permanent tented sites at night. Some of these properties have limited lighting and are powered by generators that switch off at a certain time.
- Waterproof/windproof jacket is a good idea for wet days, and early morning or evening activities when it can be cool.
- Warm fleece and beanie for morning and evening activities including game drives where applicable.
- Personal medical kit. Large kits will be on hand at the lodges and from your leader (on trips that have a dedicated trip leader) but we recommend you carry items such as mild pain killers, electrolytes and bandaids.
- Insect repellent.
- Water bottle. The sale of bottled water contributes to an enormous environmental problem around the world. In addition to the water in bottles, the production of a 1 litre plastic bottle takes 2 litres of water and 200ml of oil. A large proportion end up in limited landfill or discarded in waterways and natural environments.
- Camera with spare battery or power bank.
- Binoculars
OPTIONAL:
- Ear plugs to guard against a snoring room-mate.
- A good book, a journal or smart phone with music player.
LUGGAGE LIMIT:

Please keep your luggage to a minimum. One small soft-sided bag plus a day pack (no more than 15-20kgs in total per person) is essential.We recommend against bringing hard/externally framed suitcases as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers' belongings. If your trip is beginning and ending at the same location, excess luggage can usually be stored at your arrival/departure hotel and can be collected after your trip.

VALUABLES:

Please try to avoid bringing unnecessary valuables, and use your hotel safe. It’s also a good idea to purchase a money belt or pouch that is easily hidden. We strongly recommend that you photocopy all important documents e.g. air tickets, passport, vaccination certificate, etc. and keep the copies separate from the originals. While not valid, a photocopy makes it very much easier to obtain replacements if necessary.

BATTERIES/POWER: Our trips have access to power to recharge batteries for phones and cameras every couple of days. We always recommend that you carry an extra battery or powerbank just in case. CONSERVATIVE DRESS FOR WOMEN:

In many parts of Africa women travelers should dress modestly as there is a wide range of cultural differences. Wear skirts or shorts that reach just above the knee and tops that cover shoulders at a minimum. If visiting coastal areas wear a cover-up when you step off the beaches.
